Frequently Asked Questions
Is Coral HIPAA compliant?
Yes. Coral is fully HIPAA compliant. All data is hosted on HIPAA-compliant infrastructure through AWS and Render, and we have Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) signed with all third-party services that handle protected health information. Patient data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and our system includes automatic session timeouts, audit logging, and role-based access controls.
Does Coral replace my practice management software?
No. Coral works alongside your existing PMS — whether you're using Open Dental, Oryx, or anything else. Your dental billing workflow stays exactly as it is. Coral handles only the medical billing side.
What procedures can be billed to medical insurance?
More than most dentists realize. Commonly covered procedures include sleep apnea appliances, TMJ/TMD treatment, Botox for jaw pain, night guards, trauma-related procedures, bone grafts with periapical pathology, workers' compensation cases, hospital and ED referrals, and procedures related to underlying medical conditions like autoimmune disorders or uncontrolled diabetes. Coverage varies by payer and patient policy.
What insurance carriers does Coral support?
Coral submits claims electronically through our clearinghouse, which connects to major carriers including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, and United Healthcare among others.
Do my patients need to fill out any new forms?
No. The only change to your process is pressing record at the start of a visit. No new intake forms, no additional paperwork, no changes to your front desk workflow.
How is Coral different from other medical billing services?
Most solutions require you to manually look up codes, cross-code CPT and CDT yourself, fill out new patient forms, and retrain your staff. Coral automates all of that from a single visit recording.
